Anyone else ever associate a piece of music- an album or a song with a particular destination or a trip? I know I do!
I have a few of those and just recently on my trip to Edinburgh it happened again. In the midst of my train journey debacle, I tuned into BBC radio London and Sting’s ‘English man in New York’ was playing. Now, I’ve heard the song countless times before, but for some reason it sounded more alive and I felt the music in a completely different way on that occasion! I listened to it a few more times on the trip and now that song is forever tied in with my memories of Edinburgh.
Other notable examples that spring to mind include: UB40’s ‘Kingston Town‘– Sri Lanka. My tour guide played UB40’s greatest hits incessantly on that trip, but for some reason this song stuck and I’ve liked it ever since. Carmela Cabello’s ‘Havana‘- California. This one was fairly recently: Every radio station played this song in LA, 2 years ago and there was no getting away from it. I enjoyed it a lot in the beginning, but it soon got to the point of being mildly irritating.
When I hear these songs, memories of those places come flooding back..
